Marghi Allen grew up in Texas and Kansas. She began writing songs when she was a teenager and went on to study Creative Writing at the University of Kansas where she began performing as a folk artist in the 1970’s. She has lived and performed in New York, London, Paris and San Francisco where she was a part of the local blues scene in the 1980’s and 90’s. For the past decade she has been an integral part of the Kerrville Folk Festival where she heads the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation fundraising activities at the festivals. An avid supporter of folk music, blues and songwriters, he has been called “multi-phrenic, not schizophrenic” in her far reaching approach to songwriting which embraces many styles of popular music, including folk, jazz, blues, rock, americana, and gospel.
